Rottweiler Training

Rottweiler training can be difficult, but if you let your dog know that you are the boss from the get go, it will go much easier. You see, most Rottweiler's by nature want to be "top dog" so you need to establish that you are the leader in order to have the ability to train him properly.

There are some things you can do to accomplish this. First you want to get your dog to roll over and expose his belly for rubbing frequently. For dogs, exposing their belly is very submissive so this will help establish you as leader. Another is to make sure you always go through any doorway first. Finally, be sure that when you have eye contact with your dog that you never look away first.

When training your dog, positive reinforcement is the best option. This means that you should not punish your dog, but you do want to reward him for performing a trick. Yelling and hitting your dog is not effective for training and will never produce the obedient dog you desire. Great tasting treats, plenty of petting and lavish praise are just what will make your dog want to pay attention to your every command.

Patience, persistence and consistence is the main thing to effective dog training. Plan to hold a training session at the same time daily. The perfect time period for a training session is around 15 minutes.

With dog training, all work and no play is definitely no fun so try dividing the sessions up with 5 or 10 minutes of training and then 5 minutes of play time. Continue this pattern until the session is over. Keep an eye on how your dog responds in each session and you will come across a method that works best for them.

It takes patience and persistence to train your dog. Maintaining a daily training session where you review the commands your dog already knows and also repeat new commands is critical. You could do this in 1 session a day or split it up into two sessions.

Rottweiler training isn't really any different than training any other dog. To be effective, you must be sure to work with the nature of the dog. This way, you can make sure that your dog will be a cinch to train and will wind up being an obedient friend that everyone will love to be around.
